The Wilkin family has been farming at Tiptree, Essex, since 1757, and today the business is run by Peter Wilkin, great grandson of our founder. Our fruit crops include strawberry, raspberry, loganberry, mulberry, blackberry, morello cherry, rhubarb, damson, Victoria plum, greengage, quince and the curious medlar. We believe that we are unique in the world in growing this difficult crop, but it is worth it for its depth of taste. Our fruits are all still hand-picked and the farm is LEAF Marque accredited (Linking Environment And Farming), ensuring that we farm sympathetically with our environment and encourage links with our local community.

The Infamous Little ScarletOur signature fruit is the Little Scarlet strawberry, a tiny wild variety, originally brought to England by the Wilkin family in the early 1900’s. Fifty fresh, ripe Little Scarlet strawberries are gently cooked and packed into each glass jar within hours of being picked. The Little Scarlet, each no bigger than the size of a dime, is unique to Tiptree and grown only our farm. It's been grown for over a hundred years on our farms, prized for its intense flavor and fragrance. It's also secret agent James Bond's favorite preserve. |
