A Hex key, Allen key or Allen wrench is a tool with a hexagonal cross section used to drive bolts and screws that have a hexagonal socket in the head. This tool is simple, small and lightweight. Either end of the tool can be used to gain an advantage through reach or to gain torque. Hex keys come in lots of different sizes and using a hex wrench on a socket that is too large may result in damage to the fastener or the tool itself. An example would be using a 5 mm tool in a 5.5 mm socket. Hey keys are available in both metric and imperial sizes making it possible to select a key that is too small for the fastener. The Rolson 40345 hex key set includes a range of quality precision hexagonal keys in both standard arm metric and long arm imperial.
