Founded in 1945 in La Chapelle-Saint Mesmin, the very heart of France Duralex invented the glass tempering process over 80 years ago and has been associated with toughened glassware, utilizing their proprietary process ever since. The original tempered (toughened) Picardie glasses are known as the 'Original French Tumblers'. Duralex glass products are tempered to provide immense practicality. Invented by Duralex over 80 years ago, the tempering process consists of heating the glass to a temperature of 1292°F and then brutally cooling it. This creates a controlled stress/reaction, which improves most of its physical properties including resistance to mechanical stress and to thermal shocks.
