Peter Ostroushko steps out on his own to present this stunning album featuring 10 new compositions for fiddle and mandolin especially composed for NPR’s a Prairie Home Companion. Peter wrote and performed these great new pieces on the show earlier this year and the response from listeners was unprecedented! Thousands across the US called in trying to get a hold of this stirring music with it’s evocative blend of classical, jazz and folk! Recreated here with the talented Prairie Home house band, this is yet another masterpiece from the violin/mandolin wizard who has performed with everyone from Bob Dyan to symphony orchestras under the baton of Sir Neville Marinner!
“Breathtaking, technically brilliant music.” — Relix
“One of the greatest mandolin players going today.” — Norman Blake
About the Artist
Outroushko has created a genre all his own through his Heartland Music, a rich blending of American, Celtic and Old World folk strains, with classical and New Acoustic overtones. His music has drawn the praises of critics everywhere (including BILLBOARD’s late great editor Timothy White who compared his American spirit to the work of Aaron Copeland). The former music director of public radio’s A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION (and still a frequent guest), he has appeared with symphonies and chamber orchestras both at home and abroad, played with artists as varied as Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris and James Galway, and performed his amazing solo concerts around the world. A true virtuoso of the fiddle, mandolin and American roots music!
