What is WaveForms?
WaveForms is the Mac, Windows, and Linux compatible user interface for the Analog Discovery 2. It is a custom toolset that allows users access to the full functionality and enables the 13 available instruments. Complete with a standalone application, script editing capabilities, and software development kit, WaveForms provides any engineer with flexible and feature-rich instrumentation.
What is the Analog Discovery?
The Analog Discovery 2 is a multi-instrument test and measurement device that enables engineers to measure, visualize, simulate, and analyze mixed signal circuits of all kinds. With a mixed signal, mixed domain oscilloscope, and 16-channel logic analyzer and protocol analyzer, the Analog Discovery 2 provides an entire bench-top of instruments in one portable device. Accompanied by the Mac, Windows, and Linux compatible WaveForms, the Analog Discovery 2 is 13 instruments in one!
- Oscilloscope and Waveform Generator
- Pattern Generator, Logic Analyzer, and Protocol Analyzer
- Network Analyzer, Impedance Analyzer, and Spectrum Analyzer
- Data Logger
- Power Supplies and Voltmeter
- Static I/O
- Script Editor
Analog Discovery 2 Hardware Features
- Two Analog Inputs (±25V, differential, 14-bit, 100MS/s, 30MHz+ bandwidth)
- Two Analog outputs (±5V, 14-bit, 100MS/s, 12MHz+ bandwidth)
- Stereo audio amplifier to drive external headphones or speakers with replicated AWG signals
- 16 Digital I/O (3.3V CMOS and 1.8V or 5V tolerant, 100MS/s)
- Two input/output digital trigger signals for linking multiple instruments (3.3V CMOS)
- Two programmable power supplies (0…+5V , 0…-5V). The maximum available output current and power depends on the Analog Discovery 2 powering configurations:
- 500mW total when powered through USB. (Each supply can provide between 0mW and 500mW so long as the total does not exceed 500mW)
- 2.1W max for each supply when powered by an auxiliary supply.
- 700mA maximum current for each supply
Analog and Digital Software Enabled Instruments
- 2-channel Oscilloscope
- 2-channel Arbitrary Waveform Generator
- 2-channel Network Analyzer – Bode, Nyquist, Nichols transfer diagrams of a circuit. Range: 1Hz to 10MHz
- 2-channel Spectrum Analyzer – power spectrum and spectral measurements (noise floor, SFDR, SNR, THD, etc.)
- 2-channel Data Logger – Exportable data and plot functionality
- Impedance Analyzer – Capacitive and Inductive Elements
- 2-channel voltmeter
- 16-channel digital logic analyzer and 16-channel pattern generator
- 16-channel virtual digital I/O including buttons, switches, and LEDs – perfect for logic training applications
- Protocol Analyzer – SPI, I2C, CAN, and UART
Python and C++ API, Built-in Script Editing, and Expert Forum Support
WaveForms comes with the WaveForms Software Development Kit and built-in script editing to enable custom applications and automated test and measurement.
The WaveForms Software Development Kit comes with C++ and Python libraries and examples, as well as forum support from the software developers themselves!
The Script Editor can be accessed in the main WaveForms application, and allows for one or more instruments to be scripted in JavaScript.
The Analog Discovery 2 is also supported by 3rd party software, including MATLAB and LabVIEW.
